Seven laptops stolen from RA procurement unit

The Roads Authority (RA) has opened a case of theft following a break-in at its head office in Windhoek, which resulted in the robbery of seven laptops over the weekend.

RA spokesperson Hileni Fillemon confirmed the incident to The Namibian yesterday.

“The Roads Authority confirms a break-in at its head office over the weekend, with laptops stolen from the procurement section on the fourth floor,” she said.

Fillemon said a case of theft has been reported and investigations are ongoing.

“The incident was promptly reported to law enforcement, and an investigation is underway. No further details will be shared while the investigation is ongoing,” she said.

The robbers allegedly gained entry by climbing through balcony rails, proceeded to the fourth floor, and stole laptops from the procurement management unit, a department responsible for ensuring that the acquisition of goods, works and services is conducted in a transparent, accountable and cost-effective manner.

The thieves also went to the fifth floor, where they attempted to break into the offices of the senior manager for internal audit and the legal adviser.

The break-in comes amid past concerns around governance and security at the RA.

In 2025, The Namibian reported on a corruption investigation involving the theft of a weighbridge worth over N$2 million, which was allegedly diverted and installed at a private company without authorisation.

The case, investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission, involved allegations of fraud and theft linked to internal processes, highlighting vulnerabilities in the handling of assets and oversight systems at the authority.
