Thirty-five senior NDF officers who recently completed the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) staff course have been urged to embrace innovation, and adapt to modern security challenges beyond traditional military training.
The officers completed the intensive 11-month programme, which was marked by rigorous coursework, discipline and dedication.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony at the Namibia Command and Staff College at Okahandja on Friday, president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said the achievement reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, and excellence across the defence and security sector.
“We live in an era where the nature of our responsibilities, including warfare, have evolved beyond recognition.
“The office functions and battlefield are no longer defined only by office environment and terrain; it also includes cyberspace, artificial intelligence, satellite systems, and information networks,” she said.
The president noted that conflicts today are fought not only with conventional weapons but with advanced technology and data-driven systems.
“To the NDF officers and other professional graduates here, you must rise to meet these new and complex challenges,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah urged the graduates to lead innovation within the security sector by strengthening cyber-defence capabilities, investing in digital intelligence, and developing strategic thinking to navigate a rapidly changing world.
All these efforts, she said, are essential for improving knowledge, skills and long-term strategic performance.
She added that the graduation of senior command and staff course 05/2025 will add value to command and staff functions “even beyond our borders”.
Participants from the Namibian Police, Namibian Correctional Service and the Namibia Central Intelligence Service also completed the course.
This joint training, the president said, enhances cohesion within the security cluster and strengthens national readiness in times of emergency.
