Schools mid-term break cancelled

Schools mid-term break cancelled

SCHOOLCHILDREN will have to sacrifice the mid-term school break initially scheduled for next week to make up for the extra days they stayed home during the last school holiday.

The Ministry of Education sent out a circular to all regions indicating that June 29 and July 2 will be normal school days instead of a mid-term break as indicated on the school calendar. After the last school holiday in May, Government schools reopened a week later than usual to cater for a series of public holidays. The delay in the start of the term was due to the fact that there was a public holiday and home weekend for hostel children in the same week.As a result of the delay, schools lost two days of work. The school calendar has 195 days in a year and the Ministry had promised to squeeze in the two days somewhere else.
