Sasscal appoints Irja Indongo as executive director to lead climate efforts across southern Africa

Irja Indongo has been appointed as executive director of Sasscal, bringing extensive leadership and research experience to the regional climate and land management body.

Indongo will be leading across the five Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (Sasscal) member countries, which are Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and Zambia.

According to a statement issued by Sasscal, Indongo has served as the vice chairperson of the Namibia Statistics Agency board and the chairperson of its Statistics Board Committees.

Additionally she brings over 13 years of senior management experience from the University of Namibia, supported by a track record in research management, academic leadership, and institutional development.

Indongo holds a doctorate of philosophy in sociology.
