Listen up, athletes! The 22nd annual regional athletics is set to take place in Rundu and Sanlam is on board with the event in collaboration with the Namibia Schools Sport Union (NSSU).
More than 35 schools from Kavango East and West will have a chance to be a part of the event and realise their potential.
Pupils from Grades 5 to 10 will battle it out to make it to the national trials, which will take place in Windhoek on 17 April.
The annual regional athletics is not only a form of entertainment for the region. It is said to provide many people in and around the regions with something to look forward to. Youth in the area are able to engage in positive initiatives which prevent them from taking part in illicit activities that are detrimental such as drinking, smoking and crime, amongst others. Sports is a fantastic way to get fit as well, especially as we live in a society that is moving towards a healthy lifestyle.
Sanlam Namibia has so far supported numerous sports development programmes and projects, and is still committed to allocating available resources to sports initiatives that will positively influence the lives and aspirations of all Namibians, especially the previously disadvantaged.
“Such initiatives help avenues of communication between people of all levels and also boosts the attraction of residents from that area,” said Sanlam SNR marketing and communications consultant Ilke Platt-Akwenye. “Through our CSI (corporate social involvement), we aim to fill the loop holes within the community. We have engaged with the office of the Director of Education for Kavango East and West and look forward to their representation through the official opening speech delivered by the Director of Education.”
NSSU regional chairperson Mutangara Paulus applauded Sanlam for joining the regional athletics championships and said that there was no hesitation from Sanlam when they knocked at their door.
“I’m very delighted for receiving the sponsorship from Sanlam, this will make a difference in the Namibian child. It never happened before to get such sponsorship, keep it up and we thank you very much. We are expecting 60 teachers and 200 athletes to attend, as well as the public at large. We encourage all to join us since there will be no entrance fee at the gate.”
