Safety Ministry to polish its image

Safety Ministry to polish its image

THE Ministry of Safety and Security aims to rebuild its poor reputation and image in the next five years.

This was revealed when the Ministry launched its strategic plan for the next five years yesterday. The plan focuses on improving the Ministry’s relationship and credibility with the public, improve its operational effectiveness and create an environment that is free from danger for the public. The Minister of Safety and Security, Dr Nicky Iyambo, yesterday said that the plan was to ensure that everyone in Namibia was safe from crime. He added that it was only when peace and stability prevailed that people could engage in economic activities for a better living standard.Iyambo said the plan would focus on ensuring internal security, maintaining law and order, providing safe custody to offenders and rehabilitating and integrating offenders.’I want to emphasise this again, this strategic plan was developed not for a show, it was developed to be implemented and to guide us during the next five years,’ said Iyambo. The plan looks at addressing the escalating crime rate by improving things like the Ministry’s operational strategies and improving ICT and other infrastructure, which at the moment is almost non-existent.It is also going to address the low staff morale and the training and educational needs of the staff.
