Sadney Urikhob out for three months

Brave Warriors striker Sadney Urikhob, who has not been with the national team since Namibia’s 2-1 win over Zambia in the 2016 African Nations Championships (Chan) qualifier, was recently ruled out for three months after injuring his knee.

Speaking from his base in Thailand, where he plies his trade with Thai Super League side Saraburi FC, Urikhob said that he had been plagued by injuries.

“Late in August I was tackled badly and had to sit out for three weeks. After that I came back strongly and played for 60 minutes and even scored,” he said.

A former Civics and Amazulu striker, Urikhob then came back but in his next league game on 5 October, he twisted his left knee and was ruled out for another three weeks. Despite the magnitude of the injury, Urikhob said he was recovering well.

“I saw the doctors recently and they are surprised by my recovery. It is better than expected so hopefully instead of three months it might be half of that but I’m not rushing because a knee is very sensitive and proper healing is required,” Urikhob said.

So far he has played five matches for his club and scored three goals.

The striker would have loved to be part of the Brave Warriors team to play Guinea on Thursday but is focused on his therapy and wished his team mates all the best for their Fifa World Cup qualifier.

“I wish I was available for selection, but I wish the Brave Warriors the best of luck for the upcoming game. They have the qualities and desire to win and with the home crowd I strongly believe they can do us proud on Thursday,” said Urikhob who was part of the 2015 Cosafa Cup winning team in May.

Urikhob, 23, joins Brave Warriors defender Da Costa Angula on the treatment table, after the latter injured his foot against Senegal in September. – nfa.org.na
