Rössing Uranium has strengthened technical skills development in Namibia with the donation of a laser alignment tool valued at about N$130 000 to the Namibia Institution of Mining and Technology (Nimt).
This was recently announced in a media statement by Rössing Uranium spokesperson Daylight Ekandjo
Ekandjo says the precision instrument, handed over this week, will be used in the training of fitter and turner apprentices, equipping them with modern industry-relevant skills.
Rössing Uranium’s manager for mining asset management, Chris Tueutjiua, says the donation reflects the need for closer alignment between industry requirements and technical training institutions.
“This is a new industrial tool, and with emerging technological advancements, this is where industry is headed,” he says.
Tueutjiua says the company’s support was rooted in long-term investment in skills development.
Nimt executive director Ralph Bussel welcomes the donation, describing it as a significant boost to technical training capacity.
“As Nimt, we strive to align our training with what industry expects, but it is sometimes a challenge to purchase tools of this value because of limited funds,” he says.
“You have ploughed into what is needed. Industry expects us to be at this level, and with your support, we will get there.”
