Road works ahead

ROAD works between Okahandja and Karibib should be completed in about 20 months, the weather permitting.

The contract for the upgrade was awarded to Namibia Construction in February in this year. The fist phase, covering 45 km of road starting at Okahandja, will take about 18 months. The second phase, upgrading a further 34 km of road, will take another 10 months. On the first hilly 45 km section of road to Wilhemstal, about 13 km of climbing lanes will be added to make overtaking safer and easier. On this section there are also 10 bridges that have to be widened to accommodate the new road width.Nearly 440 stormwater culverts also have to be enlarged.Because of the hilly terrain with numerous streams and rivers, no detours can be built to accommodate the traffic during construction, which makes the work very dangerous for the workers of Namibia Construction.Motorists are asked to adhere to the speed limits and drive very carefully to prevent accidents.
