Revamped United Sport Club grounds open

• STAFF REPORTERUNITED Sport Club officially reopened its new-look facility over the weekend.

The club teamed up with the Trustco Group in September last year to transform the old venue into a modern sports centre. The centre now offers state-of-the-art rugby, hockey and cricket fields, two netball courts and a family restaurant. The Trustco Group committed itself to this sponsorship initiative for a period of five years. The United sport grounds were established in 1916 and have over the years become a beacon for sport development, said Trustco managing director Quinton van Rooyen.“We feel honoured to be part of sport development in Namibia, more so in partnership with one of the oldest clubs in the country. The rationale behind this venture is painted on our joint ideology, Trustco and United Club, that the world can be a better place for all if we advance the principle of creating wealth through strong family ties and communal relations,” said Van Rooyen. “And we believe that sport, if properly developed, can enhance the creation of wealth. We are confident that these facilities will be put to good use not only by the United Club, but that the surrounding communities will continue to utilise the facilities in this era of limited sports fields.”Since 2009 the company has invested N$1 million in squash and it has supported various junior and senior sports teams locally and for participation in international competitions over the years. Van Rooyen said his company would support any organisation and club that promises to provide sound administration and effective business plans in sport development. The Dros Restaurant at the centre will remain open to club members, their families, friends and non-members.
