The ninth and penultimate edition of the Queensab Soccer Bonanza will be held at Rehoboth Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
Organiser Rhuuksie ||Garoeb says the annual event continues to be a highlight for local and regional football enthusiasts, offering a platform for both amateur and seasoned players to showcase their talents.
According to a press release issued by ||Garoeb, this year’s tournament is open to all players and teams, making it an excellent opportunity for pre-season preparation.
The prize pool is set at N$50 000, with the winners taking home N$25 000 along with gold medals and the coveted floating trophy.
Runners-up will receive N$12 500 and silver medals, while the two semi-finalists will each walk away with N$6 250.
Registration for the tournament is set at N$2 500, non-refundable, and payable before the draw scheduled for today at the ministry of youth and sport hostel.
So far 22 teams have already registered, with an expectation of at least 10 more to join the competition. The tournament will feature 32 teams in total, utilising both fields at Rehoboth Stadium, one of which has a gravel surface.
||Garoeb says vendors who are interested in setting up stalls can secure their spots for N$600, while corporate stalls are available at N$1 500.
The entrance fee is N$20 for adults and N$10 for children under 12. In line with promoting a family-friendly environment, no outside alcohol will be permitted.
“Security arrangements will be robust, with officers from the Hardap Rehoboth Police Station deployed to ensure the safety of all attendees. Fans can also catch all the action live, as Phantom ConneXion Media will be streaming all matches on Facebook,” ||Garoeb says.
For families, a Kiddies Corner with jumping castles and other activities will be available, making it a fun outing for children and parents alike.
Additionally, the tournament offers instant payouts to winning teams, adding to the excitement and competitive spirit.
“This will be the penultimate edition of the Queensab Soccer Bonanza,” ||Garoeb says.
“We’re proud of how the tournament has grown over the years and look forward to hosting another exciting event that brings our community together through football.”
||Garoeb says financial constraints have forced him to call an end to the tournament next year.
“All of the tournaments have been very successful so far, but it’s very difficult and costly to host it without a sponsor, so the plan is to finish it with the 10th edition next year,” he says.
