‘Red Dead Redemption 2’

Rockstar Games is notorious for their violent nature, ruthless story lines and putting their world at gamers’ fingertips.

From the creators of ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ and ‘Red Dead Redemption’, ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ is a legendary tale of life in the United States at the dawn of the modern age. Set in the American frontier in 1899, the story follows Arthur Morgan, Dutch van der Linde’s most dependable and capable enforcer since he was a boy.

Sharp, cool-headed and ruthless, but with his own sense of honour, he’s a man who gets the job done. Morgan is part of the Van der Linde gang who are forced to flee after a robbery gone wrong. The gang must fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive, while Morgan has his own internal convictions, placing him between a rock and a hard place.

Having an affinity for free-roaming video games, it’s no secret that the ‘Red Dead Redemption’ series is high up on my list. A free-roaming game or an open world in gaming is a virtual world in which the player can explore and approach objectives freely, as opposed to more linear gameplay.

Rockstar does this flawlessly as they’ve set out to create the most epic open-world game to date. Along with impeccable graphics weaving storylines and outlaw life, the game features great physicality with character actions, landscapes and wildlife interactions.

The game generated US$725 million in sales on its opening weekend, ranking behind Rockstar’s ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ as the second-most profitable entertainment product launch in history.

As you navigate Morgan through the game, you might notice another familiar character from the game’s prequel. An orphaned street kid taken under Van der Linde’s wing at the age of 12, John Marston, ‘Red Dead Redemption’s protagonist, is featured as a young member of the Van der Linde gang.

‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ received universal acclaim from critics, according to review aggregator Meta critic, while Game Informer awarded the game a perfect score, writing: “Rockstar Games has outdone itself again with ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’. The up-close portrayal of the outlaw Van der Linde gang’s unravelling is a compelling companion story that blends seamlessly with the original game, and the depth and breadth of the open world is a technical triumph that every gamer should experience.”

‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ is out now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is however not suitable for persons under 18 as it features graphic sexual content, nudity, strong language, intense violence, blood and the use of drugs.
