RAMBLERS Soccer Academy will host its annual youth football tournament this weekend with 74 junior teams from 10 academies expected to be in action.
Swakopmund Football Club and their crosstown neighbours Teenagers, will battle it out with hosts Ramblers, Sport Klub Windhoek, DTS, Kaizen Football Academy, Swallows, Athletic Club, Fortis and Football School Windhoek in the three-day tournament which starts on Friday afternoon.
Teams will compete in age groups from u7 up to u17 level.
The tournament will be played at Ramblers sports grounds as well as the neighbouring WAP/Wanderers field.
Ramblers academy recently received a boost when Ohlthaver & List announced a three-year sponsorship to help drive youth football development.
Organisers have also announced that a scout from South Africa will be present to observe the available talent at under 17 level with the hope of inviting them for more trials in his country.
Founded in 1945, Ramblers Football Club has concentrated on expanding its football academy, which has become one of the largest in Namibia over the past decade.
Several young players went through the club’s academy and now ply their trade in Namibia’s premier league. The academy has also gone on some trips to play in international competitions over the past few years.
