Pupil writes book celebrating teacher

Victoria Nelumbu

Ongwediva Secondary School pupil Vickitoria Nelumbu (17) has written a book celebrating an inspiring teacher, and plans to use its proceeds to support underprivileged children in Namibia.

The book is titled ‘The Teacher I’ll Never Forget: A Story of Lasting Inspiration’.
Nelumbu says she enjoys writing, reading, entrepreneurship, and inspiring others, especially young people.

“Writing has always been my way of expressing my thoughts and sharing messages that can help others grow,” she says.

Nelumbu says she wants to use the proceeds from her book to provide less privileged children in Namibia with school materials and food.

“I want to show that even as a young person, I can make a positive difference in the lives of others,” she says.

The book celebrates a teacher who has changed her life, a mentor who has inspired her to believe in herself and never give up, she says.

“It’s a true story of gratitude and appreciation. I wanted to honour the teacher who helped shape who I am today.”

Writing and preparing the book, however, was challenging, she says.

Nelumbu says balancing schoolwork and writing was tough, and there were times when she doubted herself.

“I often wondered if my story would be good enough or if people would understand my message,” she says.

Other challenges were learning how to publish as a young author, researching, formatting, editing, and designing.

The experience has, however, taught her patience, resilience, and the importance of believing in herself, she says.

Nelumbu’s message to other young dreamers is simple but powerful: “You are never too young to start, and no dream is ever too small to make a difference.”

Early readers have been touched by her message.

Aina Henock says: “Books such as these remind us it’s never too late to change and become the best version of ourselves.

It’s well written and has so much potential to touch people’s hearts.”

Another reader, Anna Immanuel, praises the emotional depth of Nelumbu’s writing.

“What I like about this book is how she expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards her teacher, who not only believed in her, but also empowered her to believe in herself.

“It’s a story of hope, courage, and the power of human connection. It’s not just a story, it’s a tribute of gratitude and a tool for change.”
