Forty seven residents of the Goreangab informal settlement, on the outskirts of Windhoek, became proud home owners at the weekend.
The houses which were built through the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia’s two saving schemes, Self Service and Limbandungila Saving, were handed over to the owners on Saturday by Regional and Local Government and Housing Minister Joel Kaapanda. The houses were made possible under the Government’s decentralised Build Together Fund, while services were installed through the Shack Dwellers Federation’s own Twahangana revolving fund, with the assistance of Intermon Spain.Minister Kaapanda said Government alone cannot be able to address the problem of housing shortage and hence called on other stakeholders such as the private sector to play an active role.
