Power still out at Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer and surrounds

The Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) anticipates that power to Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer and surrounding areas will only be restored tomorrow after a power outage on Sunday.

The power utility has also cautioned members of the public to be careful around power lines during power outages.

This comes after the towns and surrounding areas have been experiencing power outages since Sunday.

According to NamPower spokesperson Pieter Cloete, the situation is due to an electrical fault on the second (220/132 kV 40 MVA) transformer at the Harib substation.

“The prevailing NamPower technical personnel is currently engaged in transporting a replacement transformer from Windhoek. It is anticipated that supply to the affected areas will be restored by Wednesday, 21 February,” Cloete said.

He added that the public should treat all power lines and electrical points as ‘live’ during power outages as no prior notification is given when power supply is restored.

“NamPower apologises to the residents of Ariamsvlei, Noordoewer and surrounding areas and the public at large, for any inconvenience that the outages may cause,” said Cloete.
