Porsche has halted production of one of the world’s most coveted supercars, the plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder, after selling every car made.
The last 918 Spyder – finished in a deep shade of maroon – has left the factory in Stuttgart. The model was in production for 21 months. A total of 918 of the exotic, limited-edition supercar were made, as Porsche had announced at the model’s launch, with prices starting from about €765 000 (N$10.45 million).
Production has been sold out since September 2014.
The 918 Spyder uses a mid-mounted V8 engine and electric motors at each rear axle to deliver awesome acceleration, launching the car from 0 to 100km/h in 2.6 seconds.
It was first shown as a concept at the 2010 Geneva car show before going into production in 2013.
Porsche has said many of the technological solutions premiered in the 918 Spyder will find their way into the brand’s other upmarket sports cars.
