Poly library still not a peaceful haven

A LIBRARY Assistant who appealed against the outcome of a disciplinary hearing on October 25 at which he was given a written warning for insubordination, still does not know whether his appeal has been considered favourably by the Appeals Committee of the Council or not.

Instead of getting an answer to his appeal, the Polytechnic informed Samuel Itope on December 7 that he would face new charges at another disciplinary hearing on December 13. At the hearing, Itope was charged with bringing the name of the Polytechnic into disrepute by alleging in newspaper reports that white supervisors at the institution were racists and used abusive language towards their colleagues. The Polytechnic quoted paragraphs from an article published in the tabloid Informanté, in which Itope alleged that Senior Library Assistant Wessel Smit had called him a “dom Wambo” and did not follow procedure when initiating disciplinary action against him.Itope denied all charges and his case was postponed to early next year.At the hearing, Itope was charged with bringing the name of the Polytechnic into disrepute by alleging in newspaper reports that white supervisors at the institution were racists and used abusive language towards their colleagues. The Polytechnic quoted paragraphs from an article published in the tabloid Informanté, in which Itope alleged that Senior Library Assistant Wessel Smit had called him a “dom Wambo” and did not follow procedure when initiating disciplinary action against him.Itope denied all charges and his case was postponed to early next year.
