A suspect arrested after allegedly attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl at Okahandja has been linked through DNA evidence to the 2025 rape and murder of Roswind Fabianu (7) at the same town.
Namibian Police acting inspector general Anne-Marie Nainda announced the development during a media briefing in Windhoek on Wednesday.
Nainda said DNA analysis on 13 October confirmed a match between the suspect and semen recovered from the crime scene where Fabianu’s body was found at Okahandja in April last year.
“The suspect was arrested on 10 October after security guards at Nau-Aib allegedly apprehended him while attempting to rape a girl at knifepoint,” she said.
The suspect appeared before the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted rape on Monday and is to remain in custody without bail until 18 February 2027.
The police say he is expected to be formally charged on Wednesday with murder, rape, kidnapping and defeating the course of justice in connection with the deaths of Fabianu and Ingrid Maasdorp (5).
His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
Meanwhile, investigations into the murder of the 15-year-old Beyonce !Kharuxas are continuing.
Nainda said the police would not disclose further details about the cases while investigations are ongoing, as doing so could compromise the investigations or prejudice potential court proceedings
