Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) parliamentarian Inna Hengari has urged political parties to invest in Namibian artists during election campaigns.
Hengari made these remarks in parliament on Wednesday.
She was moving the motion she tabled in June that proposes local radio and television stations do away with 80% of foreign content they are currently playing.
“Thanks honourable members for supporting this important motion that aims to empower local content creators,” she said.
“I hope during our campaign we are able to support local artists instead of investing in foreign artists that we spend so much money on,” she said.
She said using local artists gives the young people who are trying to make a living a platform.
“Let’s invite our local artist to sell our messages and not to buy them T-shirts or give them food,” she said.
She wants this to be replaced by a domination of local content to grow the local industry.
