Parliament to resume on Wednesday

The National Assembly will resume on Wednesday instead of today.

This will allow members of parliament to pay their respects to the late founding president Sam Nujoma, who died on 8 February at the age of 95 at a Windhoek hospital.

“Our position is that we would rather convene the sitting [tomorrow] and utilise the day to provide members with the opportunity to pay their tributes.

We will, however, resume the normal sitting on Wednesday at the usual time,” said National Assembly spokesperson Sakeus Kadhikwa yesterday.

Swanu president Evalistus Kaaronda praised the move, saying it was important to allow members of parliament to pay homage to the late founding president before they go on about their business given the limited time left.

This sitting of the National Assembly is set to conclude on 19 March.
