Rising Namibian boxing star and WBO Africa Super Featherweight champion, Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo, is drawing inspiration from the legendary Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao ahead of his title defence on 16 August at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek.

According to a press release issued by Nangolo’s promoter, Imms Moses, Pacquiao is currently training at the Knucklehead Boxing Gym in Las Vegas for his comeback fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios and took a moment to offer his support to Nangolo.

The Filipino icon encouraged the Namibian government to back the young talent, citing Nangolo’s potential to become a world champion.

“Flame Nangolo is a special talent. He represents hope and greatness for Namibian boxing. I urge the Namibian government and corporates to support this young man as he climbs to the top,” the release quoted Pacquiao as saying.

Pacquiao also praised Moses and AC Promotions for their tireless efforts in nurturing young talent without the benefit of major sponsorships.

“Imms Moses is doing a fantastic job with the youth. It’s never easy when you’re building from the ground up, but this is how champions and great promoters are made. Flame must stay patient and focused — the world title is within reach,” Pacquiao said.

Sean Gibbons, Pacquiao’s adviser, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the sacrifices made by Moses to secure Nangolo’s WBO title opportunities.

“Imms Moses has shown remarkable dedication. For a young promoter in Africa to facilitate a WBO title fight is no small feat — it speaks volumes about his vision and work ethic,” Gibbons said.

As the countdown to 16 August begins, the AC Promotions team reiterated its call for increased government and corporate sponsorship, saying it remains critical to elevating Namibian boxing to the global stage.
