Outapi has been without power since Tuesday night after thieves attempted to steal electricity cables that supply power to Sewer Pump Station No. 1.
Town council chief executive Ananias Nashilongo says the incident disrupted sewer services, as well as power across the town.
“This criminal act is extremely dangerous, poses serious risks to public health and safety, and undermines the council’s ability to deliver essential services,” he says.
Nashilongo says the council, together with the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor team, are on site to restore power and reconnect the sewer system.
He says the power restoration time remains unknown.
Nashilongo has urged the residence to refrain from vandalising council property and to report any suspicious activity to the Outapi Police Station via the emergency line: 081 205 5857.
