Outapi constituency by-election nominations commence

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has announced the nomination of candidates for the Outapi constituency by-election, slated for 29 September.

The nomination period opened on 5 August and will run until 18 August for independent candidates and 20 August for political parties.

This was confirmed by ECN spokesperson De Wet Siluka on Thursday.

He said the by-election was necessitated by the resignation of Immanuel Shikongo, the former
constituency councillor, who is now the governor of the Omusati region.

“The commission wishes to urge all political parties and aspiring independent candidates to use this period and submit their nominations,” he said.

Siluka said the nomination process will be conducted online.

He said a help desk has been established at the ECN’s head office to assist the political parties and aspiring independent candidates in the nomination process.
