The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) has provided N$2.68 million to repair and install five boreholes in the Oshikoto region.
The funding was provided on Wednesday through the Namport Social Investment Fund following an appeal for assistance by Oshikoto governor Sacky Kathindi.
The money will be used to repair existing boreholes and install new ones in communities experiencing water supply challenges.
Kathindi said the contribution would complement government efforts to address water shortages in the region.
“The water situation remains a serious priority for the Oshikoto region. I, therefore, appreciate Namport for responding to our request and for coming on board to support our communities,” he said during the handover at Walvis Bay.
Kathindi said the regional leadership would continue engaging state-owned enterprises, businesses and other stakeholders to find longer-term solutions to water problems.
He said partnerships are important because government resources alone may not be enough to address all the region’s water needs quickly.
“We remain committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders to find sustainable solutions to the water challenges affecting our people,” Kathindi said.
He added that ensuring communities have reliable access to water remains a priority.
“Water is life and every intervention brings us closer to securing a more reliable water supply for the people of the Oshikoto region,” he said.
