Oshana gets new SPYL secretary

Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) member Erna Kambalantu was declared Oshana youth league secretary after contender Oshotuli Ngolo was disqualified for reportedly not meeting the requirements to stand in the election.

Oshana SPYL held its extraordinary conference at Ongwediva on Sunday, which was necessitated after outgoing regional secretary Elizabeth Shilikomwenyo was appointed as a secretary at the Swapo regional headquarters.

However, Ngolo says she was not told why she did not qualify to stand in the election.

“During a regional executive meeting, I demonstrated that I had met the requirements as I submitted all the documents that were required,” Ngolo told The Namibian on Sunday.

Ngolo said she was only informed on Sunday, when the election process was about to start, that only one candidate had met the requirements and that candidate was declared the winner.

Ngolo claimed that before the conference on Sunday, she was targeted negatively by some members of parliament (MPs) from her party.

She, however, declined to disclose the names of the MPs or what was allegedly said about her.

Fabian George, who facilitated the election process, declined to comment on the matter saying he was only tasked with facilitating the elections.
