Oshakati to cut water to Govt offices, businesses

The Oshakati Town Council will begin disconnecting water supplies to government institutions and businesses with unpaid municipal accounts from 27 July.

Oshakati Town Council spokesperson Martin Kapuka says affected institutions and businesses have until 25 July to pay their outstanding accounts in full or submit a written payment arrangement to avoid having their water supply disconnected.

Kapuka says entities that fail to settle their accounts or enter into an approved payment agreement by the deadline will have their water disconnected in line with the council’s credit control policy.

“We are encouraging all affected government institutions and businesses to settle their outstanding accounts or engage the council before the deadline. The purpose is not to punish customers but to ensure the council collects revenue needed to sustain service delivery,” Kapuka says in a public notice released on Friday.

In March, the council said most of the outstanding debt had been unpaid for more than a year.
