Oshakati City sad over awards

OSHAKATI – The management of Oshakati City Football Club say they were disappointed to learn that the team featured nowhere in the Namibia Football Association (NFA) 2006/07 Football Awards of last Saturday.

The team’s administrative body felt it was an achievement for Oshakati City to move from 10th position during the 2005/06 football season to second position during the last season. According to the club’s leadership, Oshakati City deserved the NFA recognition for reaching the second spot for the first time since the club moved from the lower league into the Namibia Premier League (NPL) in 1997.Representatives of the club travelled from Oshakati to Windhoek in high hopes that their football team would scoop one of the awards at last Saturday’s function.”But, to our disappointment we were only awarded for being the runners-up in the 2006/07 NPL,” noted a member of the Oshakati City FC executive committee, who preferred to remain anonymous. He added that his team deserved the most improved team of the season award, which the NFA had abolished for no apparent reason this time around.”The NFA disregards us and our team’s contribution to the game of football in this country. They only recognise and regard us as members of the NFA family when it is time for elections of office bearers of the Association,” the Oshakati City executive member said.To make matters worse, Oshakati City was only presented with one silver medal for their runners-up prize at the award function and told by the NFA administrative part that other medals were not yet available. The Oshakati City leadership has also expressed unhappiness that its delegation to the awards function in Windhoek used its own resources in the trip, just to come back disappointed that neither the club, nor its players received special recognition from NFA.Efforts to get comment from the national football authority proved futile.NampaAccording to the club’s leadership, Oshakati City deserved the NFA recognition for reaching the second spot for the first time since the club moved from the lower league into the Namibia Premier League (NPL) in 1997.Representatives of the club travelled from Oshakati to Windhoek in high hopes that their football team would scoop one of the awards at last Saturday’s function.”But, to our disappointment we were only awarded for being the runners-up in the 2006/07 NPL,” noted a member of the Oshakati City FC executive committee, who preferred to remain anonymous. The Oshakati City leadership has also expressed unhappiness that its delegation to the awards function in Windhoek used its own resources in the trip, just to come back disappointed that neither the club, nor its players received special recognition from NFA.Efforts to get comment from the national football authority proved futile.Nampa
