In their first ever show on Namibian soil, Zambian music duo Organised Family gave the crowd as much as they could with their energetic performance at the Old Club Chez Ntemba over the weekend. Their show was an amazing feat comprising of a three hour perfectly synchronised dance and singing routine.
Comprising mainly of students, the crowd was on its feet for the duration of the show, singing along to some of the group’s catchy tunes from their previous five albums which include ‘Body Lotion’ and ‘I miss love (AKA Natolela)’. Local Hip Hop artist from Katima Mulilo, Young Bird opened for the Zambian musicians. The dreadlocked siblings, Kent and Rex Singoyi say that music has always been a part of their lives, with their mother playing a big role in them finally launching their career. ‘This has been our dream our whole lives and our parents have been our biggest fans, they have helped us a lot,’ said Kent. They began their music career in 2000 and since then, the pair have enjoyed musical success in Zambia and Malawi and sport a growing number of fans in Namibia. Their music can be described as typical Raggaeton infused Zambian music with catchy lyrics and rhythmic instrumentals.The brothers have won various awards in Zambia including a ZAPA award for best group of the year. Their hit track ‘Koka Kola’ has also bagged them ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Group of the Year’ at last year’s Muvi TV Artists of the Year awards.Apart from music, the Singoyi brothers are involved in business and enjoy sports such as soccer and tennis in their spare time. ‘We didn’t think that people in Namibia liked us this much and we have enjoyed our stay here. The hospitality here is 100 per cent and our fans here know most of our songs from our five albums,’ says Kent. Both say that they would like to collaborate with The Dogg and Gazza in future.Good news for fans is the fact this performance provided only a taste of what Organised Family can do, as they will be back in December alongside fellow Zambian superstar Mampi. This time round, Zambezi Events is bringing the musicians to Katima Mulilo for a festive season bash. None of the Organised Family albums are available in Namibia yet but negotiations with Universal Sounds are underway to make this a reality.Answering a final question in their interview with The Namibian on how they keep their energy levels up with their lengthy stage routines, they responded with a simple ‘we are just organised.’
