The assistant headman of Oponona village in the Uuvudhiya constituency in the Oshana region, Yapuleni Mpinge, has appealed to donors to assist the Oponona Health Outreach Centre with chairs and tables.
The centre provides primary healthcare to people in the area once a month.
“We do not have chairs in our health centre,” Mpinge told The Namibian last week.
Mpinge said the centre is also in need of curtains, electricity, a proper fence and public toilets.
Uuvudhiya constituency councillor Timoteus Shivute told The Namibian the people in the area can organise themselves to collect the money needed.
“Each house, for example, gives N$50 so that they can buy what they need for the health centre,” says Shivute.
He says at the moment there are about 19 health outreach centres in the constituency and communities should come on board to assist themselves.
The Oponona Health Outreach Centre was constructed with funding from the Iipumbu Ya Tshilongo conservancy and was officially inaugurated by Herman Iipumbu, the chairperson of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority, in April 2023.
