‘Operation Desert Storm’ invades Namibia

AWARD-WINNING rock band Famaz Attak are performing their latest shows on Friday and Saturday alongside two of South Africa’s top bands.

The Windhoek-based band will be playing with Half Price and Bulletscript in ‘Operation Desert Storm’, which promises to give music lovers two nights of rock, punk rock and metal.

Unknown to many, Half Price, Bulletscript and Famaz Attak share a lot of history. Kyle Curran plays drums for both Bulletscript and Half Price while Rene Traut was Half Price’s original lead guitarist before he moved back to his country of origin in 2008 to start Famaz Attak.

Since 2001, Half Price has been spreading their high octane, and dangerously infectious party punk rock extensively in Southern Africa and Europe but they have not been seen in Namibia since the Amphi’s New Year’s eve party of 2006/7.

Two-time award-winning rock band Famaz Attak don’t need an introduction to Namibian crowds. Since emerging onto the Namibian music scene in March 2010, Famaz Attak has made a huge impact with their blend of live energetic stance and crazy rock n’ roll antics.

They were nominated at the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Namibian Music Awards and won the Best Rock/Alternative award in 2012 and 2013 and also reached NTN’s 2012 and 2013 Last Band Standing finals. They have shared the stages with most Namibians bands and also SA’s legends Just Jinjer, Arno Carstens, Prime Circle, Goldfish, Kurt Darren and played Oppikoppi 2011 in South Africa.

Bulletscript returns to Windhoek, for the first time since the ‘Smoke, Dust and Whiskey Tour’ in 2011. Having recently released the ‘Knotted’ EP, the band’s gone from strength to strength, boasting a strong line-up of seasoned performers, placing great emphasis on solid song writing, stellar stage performance and a delivery so intense, that your neck will be in a constant state of head banging ecstasy.

With a busy year behind them, Bulletscript has performed at various shows on the South African circuit, notably at Africa’s biggest metal festival, Witchfest, alongside international heavyweights, Cannibal Corpse, Hatebreed, Kataklysm, Decapitated, Aborted and many more.

Operation Desert Storm will take place at the Warehouse Theatre on Friday at 20h00 and Saturday at the Desert Tavern in Swakopmund at 20h00. Entrance is N$90 at the door.
