POLICE are hunting for a gang that is allegedly responsible for the killing of a 25-year-old man and the hospitalisation of his brother last weekend in Katutura.
Gregory Lombard, who was stabbed and later died at Katutura Intermediate Hospital, was attacked while trying to hunt down gang members who had stabbed his brother Quinton Lombard.
According to the police spokesperson inspector Slogan Matheus, the two brothers were involved in a fight when they were both stabbed at the central shops along Independence Avenue.
“First the gang members stabbed Quinton close to his heart and he was rushed to hospital. When Gregory heard that his brother had been stabbed, he confronted the gang, resulting in him being fatally stabbed,” Matheus said.
Eyewitnesses said both brothers were at the shop close to their home when an elderly couple started fighting.
“Gregory was a respectful person, so when the elderly woman was beating the elderly man, he asked her to stop,” one eyewitness said, adding that the couple was part of the gang.
The eyewitness said a quarrel broke out and Gregory walked away, leaving Quinton behind. The gang members attacked Quinton and stabbed him in the process.
After Quinton had been rushed to hospital, Gregory heard of the stabbing and he approached the gang.
Gregory’s grandmother, Ouma Lombard, said the 25-year-old was the breadwinner and that the family has suffered a great loss.
“I am not only saying he was a good son, grandson, father and a brother because he was ours but because it is true. He was the only one working here and took care of everybody at home. We will miss him. He was an outspoken person and thus you would not have problems with him since he would tell you what was in his heart. God saved Quinton’s life. We are grateful for that,” Ouma Lombard said.
The police are appealing to the public with information that can help them arrest the suspects to come forward.
