Ondangwa doctor Fillemon Nakanduungile is facing murder and conspiracy charges following the death of prosecutor Justine Shiweda after a violent acid attack.

The state on Monday informed the Ondangwa Magistrates’ Court that the attempted murder charge against the accused has been amended to murder with common purpose, with a second count amended to conspiracy to commit murder.

Nakanduungile is accused of conniving with a criminal gang that allegedly shot and threw a corrosive acid at prosecutor Justine Shiweda on 17 October last year.

Shiweda (31) died on Saturday as a result of her injuries.

The case involves six accused persons, with Nakanduungile being accused number six.

Prosecutor Yeukai Kangira told the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court that although the matter was scheduled for a bail ruling, the magistrate was not available to proceed.

“Magistrate Lutaka is not available today, thus we are unable to proceed today. We were informed that the subsistence allowance and daily subsistence allowance have not been effected and the magistrate has travelled on both prior occassions at own cost,” she said.

She added that the Office of the Judiciary is working to ensure the magistrate is available.

“I’ve been informed that the magistrate is available as soon as funds are available. We therefore seek a remand to 16 February for continuation of bail,” Lutaka said.

Nakanduungile was ordered to remain in custody at Grootfontein Correctional Facility, pending his next court appearance.
