OMARURU’S new town council was appointed last week.
Selma Nelumbu of Swapo took the mayoral chain from her predecessor Mike Tjirare, who is now the regional councillor for Omaruru constituency. Nelumbu is apparently Omaruru’s first female mayor.Isboset Kahua of Nudo is the chairperson of the management committee, deputised by Hendrina Gebarhardt, with Phillip Nghipandulwa as ordinary member of management committee – both of Swapo. Albertus Naruseb of RDP was elected to the position of deputy mayor, and Kretensia Garises of RDP and Christiaan Nanuseb of UDF were sworn in as ordinary members of the council. In her acceptance speech, Nelumbu warned the newly elected political office bearers, municipal management and staff to vigilantly guard against corruption, to be transparent in their dealings and contacts, and to be the servants of their electorates.
