BARACK Obama was voted in on a wave of change you can believe in, as the first African-American President of the USA, in November 2008. He was directly endorsed as the clearly superior choice by the American electorate. Obama was fresh, untainted and exuded passion with integrity, common sense, transparency, accountability and approachability. He was the Messiah with the common touch.
His victory was not only a victory for the Democratic Party, but for the whole of USA and the world. Africa was overjoyed that one of her sons had made it, on merit, to the top of the world stage.
In South Africa, after infighting at Polokwane, Jacob Zuma became the president of the ANC in November 2007 and later deposed Thabo Mbeki in a bloodless ‘coup d’etat’. After intimidating the NPA (National Prosecution Authority), charges of corruption, bribery and racketeering in a major French arms (THINT) deal were withdrawn on a technicality. He is not acquitted. He is neither innocent nor guilty, but ‘free’. South Africa cannot choose between the ANC and Zuma, they are one and the same.
Namibia has a superior constitution, like USA, where presidents are elected directly by the people, for the people. Obama has written two books, his roots, ‘Dreams from my Father’ and his vision, ‘The Audacity of Hope’.
He is happily married in a stable relationship. Zuma has eight wives and eighteen children. He takes a shower after uncondomised sex with a HIV positive female and loves his male machine gun (Umshimi Wani). If South Africans had the luxury of choice between a Obama and a Zuma, to whom would they entrust their vote?
