The Namibia Sports Commission board has outlined a new strategic direction focused on governance, performance and athlete development following a recent leadership retreat.

A statement issued by the commission says the retreat marked a turning point, defined by clarity of purpose, strong alignment, and an uncompromising focus on getting things done.

The board has asked senior management to reset priorities, strengthen governance, and accelerate performance.

It reads: “Discussions were direct, solution-driven, and rooted in accountability. The message was clear: outcomes matter, and delivery is not negotiable.”

It further adds that the retreat’s standout achievement was the strong cohesion reached across leadership.

The board and management are now fully aligned on a shared vision built on four pillars: performance excellence, robust governance, financial sustainability, and structured athlete development.

“Critically, the commission has approved and aligned its strategic plan and annual operational plan, turning ambition into actionable direction. These are not theoretical documents. They are practical, time-bound, and backed by measurable targets and clear accountability,” the statement reads.

In a decisive move to sharpen Namibia’s competitive edge, the commission has prioritised the rollout of a structured Youth Games Strategy.

This initiative will become a cornerstone for talent identification and long-term athlete development, strengthening Namibia’s pathway to success on regional and international stages.

The retreat also reinforced disciplined governance practices, with a clear and respected separation of roles between the board and management. This alignment is expected to unlock greater efficiency, sharper oversight, and stronger institutional performance.

The commission’s board says financial discipline remains central to the commission’s direction.

“A renewed commitment has been made to align resources with strategic priorities, ensuring sustainability, compliance, and maximum impact.”

Speaking on the outcomes of the retreat, commission chief administrator Freddy Mwiya underscores the shift from planning to performance.

“The level of alignment achieved at this retreat positions the commission to act with clarity, urgency, and purpose. We are moving forward with a shared commitment to deliver tangible results and elevate Namibian sport to new heights,” he says.

Adding further weight to the outcomes, commission chairperson Turky Ndashiiva emphasises the collective resolve demonstrated by leadership.

“This retreat has delivered what was required, clarity, alignment, and decisive direction. We are leaving here united in purpose and firm in our commitment to execution. The task ahead is simple: implement with discipline, hold each other accountable, and deliver results that will elevate Namibian sport.”

The commission now enters a new phase defined by execution, accountability, and measurable impact. The focus is clear: deliver results, strengthen systems, and build a high-performance sporting environment that consistently produces excellence.
