The Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) has announced that it has settled its historic debt to Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower), which led to a temporary suspension of electricity supply in June 2023.
Nored says this in a media statement by acting chief executive Toivo Shovaleka released on Friday.
“In June 2023, NamPower had temporarily suspended electricity supply to Nored due to an outstanding historic debt amounting to N$341 million,” Shovaleka says.
Shovaleka says Nored entered into a debt repayment agreement with NamPower in June 2023 to settle the amount.
“This unfortunate inconvenience as a consequence of the temporary suspension of power to our esteemed customers is regrettable. Nored values the support and understanding of all its stakeholders during those challenging times and assures you of our commitment to preventing future disruptions of electricity supply,” he adds.
He says the N$341-million debt was fully settled on 9 June.
“We gladly proclaim that Nored’s account with NamPower is now up to date and in good standing,” Shovaleka says.
The electricity distributor says it remains committed to the continued supply of electricity.
“As a responsible corporate entity, we would like to assure our key stakeholders, customers and the that we remain committed to the uninterrupted and continuation of supply of quality, affordable and reliable electricity,” he says.
In the statment, Shovaleka urges customers to pay their accounts on time and avoid illegal connections and meter bypasses.
