THE construction of the new Zambezi regional council office complex which was supposed to be finished this year, has been stopped because of a lack of funds.
The construction of the office complex, estimated to cost about N$90 million, is funded through the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.
Chief regional officer Regina Ndopu Lubinda told The Namibian yesterday that they need additional funding to complete the project.
“Everything was going according to plan, but the shortage of funds has delayed the project that was supposed to be completed this year.”
She added that the line ministry is aware of the need for additional funding.
“We have informed the line ministry, and they are aware of the situation. We hope that we will get the money early next year so that the contractors continue building,” she noted.
Lubinda said the Zambezi regional office complex is not the only one affected as they are also planning to build two constituency offices, which also need additional funding.
Upon completion, the office complex will not only be home to the Zambezi regional council, but will also house the office of the governor, the directorate of education, and the ministry of lands, with an auditorium for 200 people as well as a wellness centre.
