The body of Epafras Hasindi (17), a pupil at Nkurenkuru Combined School, was recovered on Wednesday after days of persistent searching.
Chief inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the discovery, stating that the body was found at Kahenge in the Kavango River at around 10h30.
It is alleged that Epafras jumped into the river at Kafuma village in the Kavango West region on Saturday for unknown reasons and drowned.
The police were alerted by the community and confirmed the incident on site through information provided by Epafras’ schoolmates, who were with him at the time of the incident.
Muronga further stated that a search operation had been ongoing since Saturday, carried out by the Police Water Wing Unit and some family members.
Next of kin have been informed, and the body was transported to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary for further handling and a pending autopsy.
