KAHENGE – Nkurenkuru Town Mayor Heikki Hausiku has called on the Government to consider dividing the Kavango Region into two regions, as the region is too vast and it is difficult to serve all residents properly.
The mayor said because the region is so vast, its nine constituencies are also too big to be served by one councillor per constituency.Speaking at the Swapo Party’s 49th anniversary celebration held at Kahenge village, some 130 km west of Rundu, on Saturday, Hausiku called on the Health Ministry to consider establishing a hospital at this newly proclaimed town so that it can also serve citizens from neighbouring Angola. There is only one health centre that was set up by missionaries at the town of Nkurenkuru. The mayor further urged all Swapo Party members and supporters to work hard during next year’s Regional and Local Authority elections to ensure that all seven Nkurenkuru town council seats are occupied by Swapo. The Swapo Party currently occupies six of the seven town council seats here. In response, Health and Social Services Minister Richard Kamwi said he had discussed the possibility of establishing a hospital at the town with the chief of the Ukwangali Traditional Authority. Kamwi told the gathering that he gave the chief an option whether to renovate the Nankudu Health Centre or to establish a bigger hospital. – Nampa
