New Windhoek Damara Dress Launched

The ≠Nìsa Damaradi of |Ae-||gams has launched their new town dress at Zoo Park in Windhoek over the weekend.
The event featured a grand parade that started at the National Art Gallery and showcased traditional attire.

The aim of the event was to promote cultural heritage and raise public awareness of the symbolism of the Windhoek Damara dress.
The new dress, which represents the aloe vera plant, which is found in the Khomas region, has been well received by the public.

The dress was designed by local fashion designer |Ae||gams, who is a member of the ≠Nìsa Damaradi planning committee .
The design is based on traditional Damara attire with a modern twist of the collar, showing off the aloe leave.

The event is a part of a countrywide campaign, which has already featured events at Tsumeb, Otjiwarongo, and Khorixas over the past weeks. Other towns will still launch their town dresses, as this initiative forms part of the National ≠Nìsa Damaradi dress event to be held at Outjo , later this year.

The campaign aims to promote cultural heritage and raise awareness of the importance of preserving traditional knowledge and practices.
The event was also attended by government officials and traditional leaders.

It is hoped that the event will inspire other communities in Namibia to promote their cultural heritage and identity through fashion and other creative outlets.
