Neville Gertze new ambassador in Berlin

NAMIBIA’S former ambassador to Malaysia, Neville Gertze, has been posted to Germany and submitted his letters of credence to Federal President Horst Köhler in the Palace of Bellevue in Berlin on Friday.

Gertze officially took up his duties after the ceremony, said an announcement by the embassy yesterday.
Ambassador Gertze will also present his letters of credence to the Holy See in Vatican City, Italy and Turkey soon.
Gertze conveyed best wishes to President Köhler from President Hifikepunye Pohamba and renewed Pohamba’s invitation to him to pay a visit to Namibia.
Gertze told Köhler he would focus particularly on furthering the development of trade and investment relations between Namibia and Germany.
Köhler and Gertze exchanged views on the current global financial crisis and co-operation between the two countries in the areas of renewable energy and land reform. Ambassador Gertze also raised an earlier proposal by Theo-Ben Gurirab, Speaker of the National Assembly, on the establishment of an inter-parliamentary dialogue forum.
This idea was suggested during Dr Gurirab’s official visit to Germany in July 2007 as a suitable forum to discuss matters of mutual interest and importance.
The idea was welcomed by Members of Parliament across the party lines in both countries.
