Statement by Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, president of the Swapo Party and of the Republic of Namibia, Gateway Centre, Windhoek. Wednesday, 4 February 2026.
___________________________________________________________
Yesterday, parliament was officially opened and today, we are gathered here to commence our induction workshop dedicated to the Swapo Party members of parliament. As the ruling party, we need to be ahead of time as we start the year 2026, given the responsibilities ahead of us.
It is equally important to honour and remember the leaders of our party who have passed on. Today, 4 February 2026, marks exactly two years since our third president of the Swapo Party and the Republic of Namibia, Hage Gottfried Geingob, passed on.
Similarly, I want us to pay tribute to the life and legacy of our founding president, the father of the Namibian nation and the leader of the Namibian revolution, Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, who also left us about 361 days ago.
Let us all raise and observe a moment of silence in remembrance of our two presidents and all leaders of our party who left us.
Comrades,
The result of last year’s regional and local authorities elections, where the Swapo Party gained back her glory, is a clear indication that the people of Namibia have faith and hope in the Swapo Party and high expectations from the eighth administration.
Now that as a party we have the majority in the National Assembly, control of the National Council and Regional Councils as well as most of the local authorities, we have no reason not to coordinate our work and provide quality services to our people.
The Namibian people have elected us with a purpose and this is the time to ensure that we maintain and restore the dominance of the Swapo Party by ensuring that we deliver on our mandate.
As members of parliament, your legal mandate is clearly stipulated in our national Constitution. Therefore, this workshop is aimed at preparing and empowering our members of parliament to serve our people as a team and in a coordinated manner, in the fulfilment of your constitutional obligations.
Yes, you belong to different houses, the National Assembly and National Council. However, what is common is that you are all members of parliament with a responsibility of making laws and exercising oversight on matters of national importance.
Against this background, it is important that you have a common understanding of issues. Hence, the different topics that are chosen for this workshop.
Let there be no misunderstanding. The Swapo Party expects all its deployees, including myself, to demonstrate total commitment to the implementation of the Swapo Party election manifesto and its implementation plan as transformed into the Sixth National Development Plan.
This workshop is therefore aimed at giving us the necessary tools to effectively and efficiently carry out the tasks before us.
The theme of this workshop, ‘Parliamentarians Geared Towards Results-Oriented Leadership’, must be understood as a standard, not a slogan.
Results-oriented leadership requires preparation, mastery of issues, and the ability to turn policy into law, law into action, and action into tangible improvements in the everyday lives of our people.
A workshop is not a conference and I am not a presenter. It is my belief that our presenters have a lot to share with us and I need not take up much of your time. We need to move into the workshop without further delay.
As I conclude, I am advising all of us to take this workshop seriously. I must tell you, if you think you know, you will never know; if you do not know, you are the wealth of knowledge.
I thank all our presenters for having accepted to volunteer their time and their service to the party, and for being ready to share their knowledge with us today. Your love for your party and the country, Namibia the Land of the Brave, is highly appreciated.
I now declare the Swapo Party Parliamentarian Induction Workshop officially opened and wish you productive discussions.
May it bolster your resolve and sharpen your commitment to serve our party and our country with honour.
Long live the Swapo Party!
Swapo! United!
Swapo! Victorious!
Now! Hard work!
I thank you.
