The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) has called on president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to establish a commission of inquiry into procurement and possible conflicts of interest at the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NEFF deputy president Kalimbo Iipumbu says the inquiry should investigate concerns surrounding public procurement and the use of state resources.
The party acknowledges health minister Esperance Luvindao’s denial of wrongdoing and her position that allegations must be supported by evidence.
However, Iipumbu says a denial cannot replace an independent investigation when serious questions are raised about public resources.
“The public deserves to know the truth,” he says.
NEFF wants the inquiry to examine the ministry’s procurement processes over several years, including tenders, contracts, public spending, potential conflicts of interest and compliance with procurement laws.
The party also calls for an investigation into possible systemic weaknesses or irregularities that may require corrective action.
Iipumbu says the allegations were concerning, coming barely into the second year of the current administration.
He warns that the government must not allow a culture of impunity to develop.
NEFF further urges the president to ensure that credible concerns involving other ministries and state institutions are investigated.
“Namibians deserve answers, accountability and confidence that public resources are protected and that no one is above the law,” Iipumbu says.
