Nascam fires copyright officer over alleged financial misconduct

The Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music (Nascam) has dismissed copyright licensing officer Herbert Wantenaar after uncovering alleged financial misconduct spanning more than a year.

Wantenaar, who has worked at Nascam for over a decade, was formally charged with theft, fraud, and breaching company policy before his dismissal on 31 July.

Nascam chief executive Albert Nicanor says: “This incident represents a breach of trust, and we are prioritising the protection of the rights of Namibian music creators and restoring integrity to our operations.”

Nicanor affirms that Nascam has since introduced tighter financial controls and strengthened oversight.
