THE founder of the new political party that was recently formed in Omusati region revealed that Nampo is a sister political party of Swapo.
The Namibia People’s Organisation (Nampo) party was formed on 20 December last year, immediately after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, by Polykarp Ameya and Shailemo David.
Ameya told The Namibian that he formed the party because he felt there was a huge public demand for economic independence from the youth.
“People should look away from political parties that are treating each other badly; they should rather look forward to fight for peace and stability,” he said.
He said that Nampo aims to push Namibia towards economic and technological independence.
When asked whether he has registered the party with the Electoral Commission of Namibia, Ameya said that he is yet to register the party.
He could not give the exact number of his party members, saying that the party was still new but aims to register more youths soon.
Ameya, who is still in possession of a Swapo Party membership card, said that he does not intend resigning from Swapo any time soon, neither will he be forced to resign from the party by anyone.
“I am a Swapo member. Swapo is my blood, my parents, my revolution, and Swapo will always remain the party that I trust most. I will resign from Swapo when I am ready; no one can force me to resign,” he said, adding that Nampo is Swapo-friendly but that Swapo has lost its vision to fight for economic independence.
Nampo will contribute towards Vision 2030 by mobilising people to come up with their own technological ideas, thus enabling them to manufacture their own items without having to import things from other countries.
Ameya urged the nation to join Nampo in order to fight for technological independence in Namibia.
“I do not want to get involved in a political fight because I chose to form my own political party. I should have the freedom of choice to do so. People should be calm because we do not want any war in Namibia,” he said.
Nampo is the second political party formed recently. The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters was established in June last year.
Ameya said that the party will soon be formally introduced to the nation.
The Swapo regional coordinator for Omusati region, Erginus Endjala, said that he is waiting for Ameya to return his Swapo Party membership card in order for him to carry on with his duties in a peaceful manner.
“It is his democratic right to form a political party of his choice, but I just want him to return the Swapo membership card,” said Endjala, adding that Nampo is a non-starter as far as Swapo is concerned.
