Dan Craven won a silver medal in the Elite Men’s road race on Thursday to take Namibia’s total at the African Cycling Championships in Egypt to three medals.
Craven broke away with two Eritrean and one Algerian rider, but by the time they reached the home straight, the Algerian had dropped out. In the final sprint to the line, Craven battled it out with the two Eritreans and went on to finish second, a split second behind the leading Eritrean.
On Wednesday, Vera Adrian won her second medal at the championships when she came second in the Elite Women’s road race, finishing behind the professional South African cyclist, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio.
Adrian had earlier won a bronze medal in the Elite Women’s individual time trial.
In the Junior Men’s road race, Pascal Margraff broke away from the peloton and maintained a 20 second lead. He was however caught with 5km to go and eventually finished fifth overall.
The Junior Women’s race ended in a mass sprint for the line and Chelna Neethling also managed to finish in fifth position.
