A team of 14 kick boxers will represent Namibia at the first African Continental Martial Arts Games in Gaborone, Botswana this weekend.

The tournament will fall under the auspices of the World Martial Arts Games Committee (WMAGC) which recently gave approval to Namibia to attend the event while the Namibia Sport Commission also gave permission to the team to participate in the event.

The Namibian team, which will be accompanied by Sensei Martin Gunther and Sensei Lesley Hoaeb consists of the following kick boxers:

Rohan Kotze, James Goagoseb, Samuel Bumbel, Hugo Jones, Llewellyn de Jager, Giano Alcock, Dawn Spangenberg, Stephanie Schoonbee, Delano Müller, Jan Willem van Zyl, Mia Kittler, Raymundo Bowe, Anco Snyman and Xanthe Snyman.

The WMAGC anticipates that between 10 and 15 countries will compete at the event, including SADC nations Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, as well as the United Kingdom.

The competition starts on Friday with the Kata divisions, while the Kumite and kickboxing divisions will be held on Saturday.

The Namibian national team was selected following a tournament held at Desert Storm in Walvis Bay in October last year.
