Namibia has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United States to collaborate on renewable energy.
During a signing ceremony in Windhoek on Thursday, the minister of mines and energy, Tom Alweendo, said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be for five years.
“The MoU is for collaboration in solar, wind and green hydrogen,” said Alweendo.
The United States’ ambassador to Namibia, Randy Berry, said the US is seeking to promote Namibia’s energy security and the MoU is the first step.
“Under this agreement, we will share expertise and resources to promote Namibia’s energy security, expand and diversify energy sources and support Namibia’s vision of becoming a net exporter of renewable energy and a regional leader in clean energy solutions,” Berry said.
