Following an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Brazil, the Directorate of Veterinary Services has restricted the import of birds and fresh frozen bird products.
This was announced by acting chief veterinary officer Johannes Shoopala on Tuesday.
“In order to mitigate the risk of introducing HPAI virus into Namibia, importation and in transit of the following commodities are restricted and all previously issued permits are hereby recalled, effective from the date of the issue of this public notification,” he said.
However, processed poultry products and by-products with a valid veterinary import permit will be exempt from this restriction.
